Spirit, Elena London Dry Gin

$40.00
ELEGIN

Elena and Luca Currado, highly respected winemakers in the region of Piedmont, Italy, are the master distillers behind this wonderful Gin.  With a love of artisanal spirits, they have expanded their craft to honor the recipes of their families of generations past – using the same precision and attention to detail for which they are known for in the wine world.  The Elena Gin features botanicals from the Italian Alps – highlighting juniper berries, almonds, thyme, coriander, black elderflower, angelica, wild mint and others.  All citrus used is organically-grown and the production is completed in small batches for precision.

Made from the world-renowned wine producer Vietti: Here is Elena; London Dry - in Langa style. A small-batch gin crafted from handpicked botanicals and mainly traditional herbs from the Langa hills and the Alps in Piedmont.

Botantials include juniper berries from the Maritime Alps in Piedmont, almonds, and Langa thyme and coriander seeds. Black elderflowers from the Langa, Angelica flowers from the Alps, wild mountain mint, wild chamomile, cassia bark, lime peel, bitter orange peel & the flowers of various citrus fruits.

We never use synthetic flavorings; only natural infusions and distillates produced in-house with the maceration of botanicals, infusion in alcohol and percolation. We do not use essential oils extracted using ultrasound or centrifuges. We only use pure wheat alcohol, never alcohol from fruit or molasses; and pure sugar, never glucose syrup. And we only use cold and paper filtration, without synthetic adhesives, artificial filters, carbons or anything else. The small batches are entirely distilled in-house, using two 18th-century wood-fired copper stills. In the traditional one-shot production process the botanicals are distilled together with the spirit, while the herbs undergo infusion and percolation only once. The wild mountain plants we use come from the Langa, the Alta Langa and the Alps surround- ing our beautiful region, and are all picked by hand by locals who supply them to the distillery every season.

  • Appearance: Crystal clear. Slightly smoky color due to the infusion of natural herbs and wood-fired distillation.
  • Nose: Marked notes of juniper, with overtones of myrtle and slightly citrusy aromatic herbs. Floral aromas that conjure up the meadows in the upper Langa and the Alps in summer are strengthened by a balsamic finish.
  • Palate: Though it may contain only a few botanicals, it exudes opulence in a taste packed with richness and body. A few seconds after an intense opening the notes of juniper burst onto the palate, followed by hints of spices and herbs on the finish. As only natural herbs and infusions are used, the oily sensation that fills the mouth lingers on the palate, meaning much less is required for mixing with tonic than other types of gin. At its best paired with a neutral tonic, or if you prefer a Mediterranean tonic water, cardamom and juniper berries.
